In 1914, Swami Nirmalanandaji invited the residents of Haripad for Lunch Prasad on the Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti in which everyone irrespective of whatever caste he belonged to, took part. But after the Lunch, the people were hesitant to remove the leaves of the lower caste. Sizing the situation, Swami Nirmalananda rose to the occasion and remarked , “ All these people are devotees of Bhagawan. I am the Servant of the Lord, I am a Sannyasi, I have no caste.” Telling thus, he started removing the leaves of the lower caste people. As he started removing the leaves, people belonging to upper castes also started removing the leaves of the lower caste people. Thus the first Socio- Spiritual Revolution which broke the back bone of the Caste ridden mentality of Kerala, which was called as “ Lunatic Asylum” by Swami

Vivekananda, was enacted at Haripad, before it was enacted on the political field many years afterwards. With this heavy blow he broke the backbone of the monster caste. It was the first fell blow against the entrenched fortress of Caste. By subsequent blows the fortress collapsed and we are free. The first blow was administered by Nirmalananda, the follower of Sri Ramakrishna- Vivekananda.

In memory of this event, this year we are holding the “Samooha-Panthi-Bhojanam” along with Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti, where people belonging to all castes will take Anna Prasad together.
